After its soft launch last September, The Seacare Hotel had its grand official opening on 30 January 2013 with NTUC Secretary-General Lim Swee Say as Guest-of-Honour and a special guest from the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF), Acting General Secretary Stephen Cotton.
Standing along Chin Swee Road near Chinatown, the hotel will provide affordable and readily-available accommodation to the seafaring community when they are in Singapore during a crew change.
The 16-storey hotel with 103 suites, deluxe and superior rooms has been a much cherished dream by the Singapore Organisation of Seamen (SOS) and Seacare Co-operative Limited. SOS President Mohamed Idris Mohamed Ibrahim shared: “Initially in 2008, the intention was to look for an existing hotel or a suitable building for implementation as a seamen’s hotel. After the search proved futile, a bout of brainstorming in 2009 led to the concept of constructing the desired hotel as an annexe of the Seacare Building.”
SeaCare understands that seafarers alone may not generate a sufficiently high occupancy rate for the hotel throughout the year, so it will also cater to other likely hotel patrons beside seafarers. However seafarers will continue to be given priority of booking.
The Seacare Hotel’s facilities, which include a gym, a sky lounge, a sky garden, a jackpot Room, the Club@52 as well as conference rooms, are in line with the economy-class status of the hotel, while still catering to the guests’ recreational and business needs.
NTUC members can enjoy a 10 per cent discount on room rates at The Seacare Hotel.
