Recognising the increasing numbers of PMEs (Professionals, Managers and Executives) in the workforce, The Singapore Manual & Mercantile Workers’ Union (SMMWU) launched its PME Chapter called PRO-U recently.
Guest-of-Honour Ong Teng Koon, who is SMMWU Advisor and Member of Parliament for Sembawang GRC, said the union must remain relevant to the current as well as future workforce, and that it was important to reach out to all segments of the workforce.
Added Andy Lim, SMMWU’s President and Chairman of PRO-U: “PRO-U aims to engage the PMEs in all sectors that SMMWU represents. We plan to engage not just through the organising of social and recreational activities, but also in the area of workplace rights, industrial relations issues, and even in the area of professional development.”
