The Security Officer Handbook, which is available to all private security officers to help them better understand their employment rights, has been updated with information on the Progressive Wage Model (PWM) for the security industry. The handbook was first launched in 2013, and is published by the Union of Security Employees (USE) and WorkRight – an initiative by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and the Central Provident Fund (CPF) Board.
Illustrated in comic form for an interesting and easy read, the handbook clarifies issues related to the employment act and includes information on the latest CPF contribution rates. In addition, the handbook now includes information on the PWM for the security industry, including the different job grades and corresponding responsibilities of security officers, recommended starting monthly basic wages, and training required for progression. The PWM for the security industry will become mandatory from 1 September 2016.
About 5,000 copies of the new handbook are now available at USE’s Customer Service Centre, located at Waterloo Street. The handbook is also available online at http://bit.ly/SOHandbook. A second print run of 10,000 handbooks will be made available in due course.
Mr Steve Tan, Executive Secretary, USE, said, “It is important that our security officers know the impending changes to the industry with the introduction of the PWM. This awareness will ensure they receive their fair dues, and that every security officer will benefit from the training, career progression, productivity and wage requirements of the PWM. In addition, the handbook also emphasises the need for best HR practices among security firms, and highlights areas to look out for.”
