Singapore’s logistics workers will now have more opportunities to upskill and upgrade, in the face of increased automation and digitalisation. This is thanks to agreements between ST Logistics and two institutions – NTUC LearningHub and National University of Singapore (NUS).
The memoranda of understanding (MOU) were signed on 31 January 2019 at the ST Logistics – Supply Chain Employees' Union (SCEU) Learning Festival at Toll City.
Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry Koh Poh Koon was present to witness the signing.
The MOU with LearningHub and ST Logistics signified the start of skill-upgrading efforts between the two entities.
Meanwhile, NUS and ST Logistics agreed to work together to provide training opportunities for working adults, through technology courses, specialist certificates, and Bachelor and Masters programmes.
“In the face of increased automation and digitalisation in the supply chain and logistics industry, developing our workers to help them adapt and stay in sync with industry changes is crucial for continuity and success,” said ST Logistics CEO (Designate) Loganathan Ramasamy.
Four institutions – LearningHub, NUS, Republic Polytechnic, and Korn Ferry Advance – were present at the MOU signing ceremony. The institutions were there as part of the learning festival to promote career guidance programmes and PME-specific advancement courses.
These courses were offered to both ST Logistics’ employees as well as SCEU members from other firms who attended the event.
These courses were designed by various stakeholders in Singapore’s logistics industry as part of the logistics industry SkillsFuture Framework.
