On 31 January 2014, Friday morning, Prime Minister (PM) Lee Hsien Loong and NTUC Central Committee members, led by NTUC President Diana Chia and Secretary-General Lim Swee Say, visited uniformed personnel of the Queenstown Neighbourhood Police Centre (NPC) and Alexandra Fire Station (AFS).

This was the first time that PM Lee and the Labour Movement jointly visited uniformed personnel, who cannot be union members under the law, on the first day of the Lunar New Year (LNY). The visit was to recognise uniformed personnel who forgo their holidays and continue to work on the first day of LNY. It was also to show appreciation to them as they put their duties before self to safeguard the security and safety of our people.

During the visit, PM Lee met over 80 uniformed personnel. Each of them received Mandarin oranges and a bag of cookies as tokens of appreciation from PM Lee and the Labour Movement. The commanding officers of NPC and AFS also shared with PM Lee their teams’ daily operations, including equipment drills and training, as well as showcased some community engagement projects.

The visit ended with a Lo Hei session whereby the uniformed personnel, together with PM Lee and NTUC Central Committee members, tossed Yu Sheng to usher in the Year of the Horse.
