Prime Minister (PM) Lee Hsien Loong and Mrs Lee, at the invitation of NTUC President Mary Liew, NTUC Secretary-General (SG) Ng Chee Meng and NTUC Central Committee, visited platform workers and mall staff working at Jurong Point mall on Lunar New Year (LNY) Eve, Monday, 31 January 2022, to thank them for providing essential services during the LNY festivities.
They were joined by NTUC Assistant Secretary-General Patrick Tay as well as Ms Yeo Wan Ling, Advisor to NTUC affiliates National Delivery Champions Association (NCDA), National Private Hire Vehicles Association (NPHVA) and National Taxi Association (NTA); and Mr Fahmi Aliman, NTUC Director, Operations Department. Together, they greeted taxi drivers and food delivery riders whose services are likely to be in higher in demand on LNY Eve in the lead up to and through the LNY festivities. They were accompanied by Minister for Transport S Iswaran and Second Minister of State for Transport Dr Amy Khor.
PM Lee and guests also greeted the mall workers comprising security officers, cleaners, facilities management and customer service staff, who keep the mall clean, safe and operating smoothly all year round, including the LNY period. Prior to PM Lee’s visit, SG Ng greeted private hire drivers along with Ms Yeo and Mr Fahmi.
LNY gift bags, which included red packets, mandarin oranges, hand towels, vacuum flasks and face masks, were presented to the drivers and workers at Jurong Point in the spirit of the festive season. The LNY Eve visit was hosted by Mercatus Co-operative Limited, an NTUC social enterprise.
Today’s LNY Eve visit is part of the annual tradition where NTUC and Labour Movement leaders spread festive cheer to workers who set aside personal time and continue to provide essential service during the LNY period.
