NTUC’s e2i (Employment and Employability Institute) has partnered some 14 institutes of higher learning (IHLs) to offer customised initiatives to help both students and alumni realise their career aspirations.
One example of such a partnership is the memorandum of understanding (MOU) which e2i recently signed with Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) to bolster the school’s Education and Career Guidance initiatives.
This is expected to benefit the school’s 14,450 student population before they embark on a career within a sector of their choice.
“This MOU provides a platform for NYP and e2i to jointly engage our students and alumni through workshops, seminars, industries’ learning journeys and employers networking sessions to enhance their employability and raise their awareness of the industry trends, developments and opportunities. This will certainly help our students make well-informed career decisions,” said NYP Principal and CEO Jeanne Liew.
Prepping Students
The key objective of e2i’s collaborations with IHLs is to enable young students to make the transition from school to work as seamlessly as possible.
To realise that, special considerations have been taken into account to understand the unique needs of the students and ensure that the career support programmes and job fairs complement their partner schools’ initiatives.
Other considerations include giving the students practical exposure in a manner that is engaging, relevant and realistic. While the various programmes are organised by e2i together with the respective IHLs, the actual training is conducted by external trainers engaged by e2i. A member of the planning team will oversee the engagements.
Some of the programmes organised in collaborations with IHLs include Internship Preparation talks, School to Career Workshops, networking sessions with employers, masterclasses focused on job hunting in a digital age, and Young Executive Workshops.
NTUC This Week understands that communication for upcoming programmes is done internally through the schools’ networks or communicated during classes.
