“As academics, part of our role is in equipping our students with the right skills and knowledge to seamlessly enter their future careers… We must also understand what is happening so that when we lecture, conduct tutorials and plan our curriculum, it is attuned and aligned with the developments happening in industry,” shared Ngee Ann Polytechnic Academic Staff Union (NPASU) President Tan Choi Heng.
To this end, NPASU and NTUC U Future Leaders supported “CET & Beyond”, a forum organised by the polytechnic’s Continuing Education and Training Academy on 9 October 2017.
Centred around the topics of global disruption and the future of work, the forum saw speakers such as Vincent Quah, business lead for education, not-for-profit at Amazon Web Services, and Wendy Lai, strategy & operations leader and partner at Deloitte Consulting SEA share their perspectives on the leading innovations shaking up the economy.
Over 240 participants attended the forum, including NPASU members, union leaders from the NTUC Education Cluster as well as staff and management from the polytechnic.
Future Plans
Mr Tan also shared how the NPASU has been closely partnering NTUC’s Organising Resource Centre and Ong Teng Cheong Labout Leadership Institute (OTCi) on various engagements to prepare union members for the future. He also hopes to be able to collaborate with NTUC U Associate on training and talks which will be of relevance to members.
