On 5 October 2013, NTUC Foodfare Co-operative Limited opened its Punggol coffeeshop at Punggol Place by welcoming families with popcorn giveaways, caricatures for kids and singing entertainment for the elderly.
“We didn’t just set up another coffeeshop. To us, we are setting up our home right here in the vibrant new town of Punggol where we see ourselves very much a part of the community here,” shared Foodfare CEO Perry Ong.
In light of the joyous event, Foodfare pledged $30,000 in food vouchers for use over two years redeemable at its outlets as a means to reach out and provide additional help for needy residents in Punggol.
This shadows the company’s recent initiatives to extend more help to the lower income and needy including the Budget Pick, which sets out to create an ecosystem where its business partners are able to “give back as they earn”, by offering low entry meals from as little as $2 to the public.
Beyond providing everyday affordability, Foodfare is also ramping up efforts to help shape and better the lives of fellow Singaporeans who are in need. The social enterprise aims to reach out to grassroots and social service partners to widen its social impact in the heartlands.
Adding onto the celebrations, Foodfare’s Punggol coffeshop stalls also received acknowledgement and recognition for receiving 100 per cent `A’ grading from NEA.
