Held in the heart of Jalan Bukit Merah on 22 April 2015, the launch of the Pioneers OK! Truck along with the unveiling of an NTUC Health’s new SilverACE (Bukit Merah) aim to reach out to pioneers and the elderly.

Strength in Numbers

Speaking at the event to a 100-strong senior group, Guest of Honour NTUC Deputy Secretary-General (DSG) Chan Chun Sing said it was important to allow the Pioneer movement to go beyond monetary incentives to appreciate all that they have done for Singapore since its independence.

NTUC hopes to better roll out initiatives to meet the needs of Singapore through different phases of life with the grouping of its Social Enterprises.

“Going forward, we are not only going to provide the current suite of services that meet the needs of Singaporeans today but we will also aspire to meet your aspirations and expectations and pleasantly surprise you and the generation of tomorrow,” said DSG Chan.

Ushering in the next phase of the Pioneers OK! Package, the newly-launched Pioneers OK! Truck will travel to various estates from 25 April till end September this year.

Some of the activities lined up include health screenings, exercise sessions and cooking classes over the six month period.

Opening Of SilverACE

SilverACE (Bukit Merah) is the seventh Senior Activity Centre (SAC) run by NTUC Health. Apart from having company with others, the elderly can also enjoy an array of activities like free health checks, karaoke sessions, exercises and outings.

NTUC Health’s SACs were established to encourage active ageing among low income seniors who have little family support and limited social network.

SilverACE (Bukit Merah) began operations in December 2014 and aims to reach out to over 500 seniors aged between 60 and 95 living in the four HDB rental blocks in Jalan Bukit Merah and Kim Tian Place.
