Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat, NTUC President Mary Liew, NTUC Secretary-General Ng Chee Meng and members of the NTUC Central Committee were at Changi Airport Terminal 3 early this morning to show their appreciation to the workers who provide essential services during the Lunar New Year festive period.
They were accompanied by several other ministers who were concurrently meeting other workers in the public transport, port and hospitality sectors island wide, together with various NTUC-affiliated unions.
This year’s series of Lunar New Year visits extended to some 3000 workers over nine unionised company locations.
The ministers also presented gifts such as ang baos and mandarin oranges to the workers who took on duties during the festive period.

Spreading cheer to workers who provide services to travellers during the festive season. NTA leaders also distributed gift bags at the other airport terminals this morning, reaching out to 1,000 taxi drivers in total.
Minister Chan Chun Sing, SMS Janil Puthucheary and MOS Zaqy Mohamad (Woodlands Bus Depot), together with NTUC Assistant Secretary-General and NTWU Executive Secretary Melvin Yong, visited some 620 bus captains, train captains, office workers and train operations crew at Woodlands Bus Depot, Seletar Bus Depot and Gali Batu Rail Depot. They were accompanied by NTUC Central Committee members Ken Tan, Lim Teck Chuan, Raymond Chin and NTWU leaders.
Minister Chan, NTUC CC member and AUPE General Secretary Sanjeev Tiwari, NTUC CC member Luke Hee as well as NTUC Assistant Secretary-General Desmond Choo visited the back-of-house operations at Resorts World Sentosa. The visit included the laundry room, deployment office and staff cafeteria. The workers he met were mostly staff from the casino. He ended his visit at Sentosa Golf Club where he met F&B and house cleaning staff together with some caddies. In total, he met around 200 workers.
Minister Indranee and SPS Baey Yam Keng, accompanied by NTUC Secretary for Financial Affairs and SPWU General Secretary Arasu Duraisamy, NTUC Deputy Secretary-General Koh Poh Koon as well as NTUC Central Committee member and POU President Benjamin Tang, joined union leaders from SPWU and POU to show their appreciation to close to 1,000 port workers at PSA Singapore. These workers continue to work on the first day of the Lunar New Year to ensure that our port operations, which functions 24 hours each day and 365 days a year, remains smooth running.
Minister Desmond Lee and SMS Janil Puthucheary together with NTUC Assistant Secretary-General (ASG) and NTWU Executive Secretary Melvin Yong as well as NTUC ASG Patrick Tay, visited some 150 bus captains, train captains, office workers and train operations crew at Jurong East Bus Interchange and MRT Station.
NTUC Secretary-General (SG) Ng Chee Meng, Group Chief Executive Officer, NTUC Enterprise; CEO, FairPrice Group and Labour MP Seah Kian Peng and NTUC Central Committee members Tan Richard and Lim Wen Sheng were at the FairPrice (FP) outlet at Rivervale Mall greeting and appreciating FP staff who were busy working hard during LNY eve to do essential LNY grocery runs.
