Parkway Shenton, Singapore's leading primary healthcare solutions provider, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with National Taxi Association (NTA) today, to provide general practitioner (GP) services to taxi drivers who are members of NTA and their immediate family members at affordable prices.

Under the terms of the MOU, all NTA members and their immediate family members, including spouses, children and parents, are entitled to pay just S$22 for each visit to the GP clinics under the Parkway Shenton Medical Group from August onwards. This is applicable for visits related to acute illnesses and the fee comprises general consultation fee and up to three standard medications (inclusive of GST).

This joint initiative by NTA and Parkway Shenton to provide affordable GP services to taxi drivers and family members further expands Parkway Shenton’s collaboration with NTA. In April this year, the primary healthcare group has started offering free medical assessment on fitness to drive for all NTA members aged 70 years and above at all its clinics across Singapore. Last month, Parkway Shenton and NTA also jointly launched a comprehensive suite of statutory medical assessment packages for taxi drivers starting from S$12 per examination.

Dr Chai Chin Yoong, Chief Executive Officer of Parkway Shenton, said, “General practitioners are often the first-line medical care providers whom people turn to for health advice. We are proud to work with NTA who is keen on the healthcare needs of their members. And we are happy to broaden our medical and healthcare offerings to all NTA members and their family members at affordable prices.”

Mr Wee Boon Kim, President of National Taxi Association, said, “We are pleased to have strengthened our partnership with Parkway Shenton group, which shares a common goal to further enhance the quality of life and improve the well-being of the taxi driver community in Singapore. We look forward to leveraging Parkway Shenton’s expertise and capabilities in healthcare to bring greater benefits to our members and their families.”

Mr Ang Hin Kee, Labour MP and Advisor to National Taxi Association added, “Our drivers are constantly on the move and it is important to promote healthy living and better medical services for them and their families. With the latest added-on service from Parkway Shenton, we are able to string together more value-added healthcare services for our members."

“Parkway Shenton’s commitment to giving back to the community does not end with this collaboration with NTA. We are working with other NTUC member organisations on various opportunities to extend our GP services at lower rates to workers in other industries. We hope that more people will stand to benefit from our quality yet affordable healthcare services.” Dr Chai concluded.

The MOU was signed by Dr Chai Chin Yoong and Mr Wee Boon Kim at a ceremony held this afternoon.
