With promises of a better future for Singapore and Singaporeans, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong assured that the Government is determined to "improve workers’ lives". He was speaking at the May Day Rally held at Downtown East this morning.
He stressed there are targeted programmes to help workers across all levels, from older workers to low-wage workers to PMEs (Professionals, Managers and Executives).
He said the Government encourages older workers' approach to want to work beyond 62 years and will do more to support them.
He assured the Government will improve the lives of low-wage workers too and not leave them behind. He acknowledged that the Government has incorporated the Labour Movement's Progressive Wage Model into its regulations for the cleaning sector, and will do so for security industry too, and will take the lead in best-sourcing. He pointed out that NTUC is also working with companies to roll this out in 12 industry sectors.
In matters concerning PMEs, PM Lee expressed confidence that unions can effectively represent the interests of more PMEs and also shared that tripartite partners are studying this issue closely.
"Let us stand shoulder to shoulder to navigate the future, trust in each other to overcome our challenges, work hand-in-hand to maximise our potential and build a bright future for ourselves and our children," said PM Lee.
