In a bid to grow the talent pool and support the growth of a Singaporean Core, the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA) and Supply Chain and Logistics Academy (SCALA) launched the Logistics Professional Conversion Programme on 29 June 2016 at the Lifelong Learning Institute at Paya Lebar for professionals, managers and executives (PMEs) keen to join the industry.
At present, more than 10 logistics companies are offering some 80 vacancies for the programme when it commences this month.
The programme will help PMEs gain new skills to help them in new roles that span across areas such as freight forwarding, fleet operations management, supply chain operations, warehousing and storage.
There will be 150 vacancies for the roles of logistics officers and logistics executives available in the next two years.
HANDS-ON APPROACH
“This newly launched PCP will also include mentoring and coaching, where experienced practitioners from the industry will help to guide PMEs undergoing conversion to adapt to their new job roles,” said Minister for Manpower Lim Swee Say, highlighting how this mentorship component is the first to feature in a PCP programme.
This will complement the customised on-the-job training component and facilitated classroom sessions. Additionally, trainees will be employed by the participating companies as they undergo training.
Upon completion, they will be awarded an Advanced Certificate in Supply Chain Operations from SCALA and Singapore Workforce Skills Qualifications Statements of Attainments issued by WDA.
“The launch of the Logistics PCP supports our efforts in strengthening the Singaporean Core and ensuring a continuous pipeline of skilled manpower for the industry. We will also work closely with our partners to help those who are keen to make a mid-career switch through the Logistics PCP,” said Sylvia Choo, NTUC's Logistics cluster lead.
