The National Taxi Association (NTA) is dismayed with the recent assault incidents and fare cheats/evasions committed by passengers on taxi drivers. While these are isolated cases, we strongly urge the relevant authorities like the Land Transport Authority and Singapore Traffic Police to take stern actions, including prosecution, to send a message of strong deterrence that such irresponsible action does not pay.
Our taxi drivers commit to long hours of work every day to deliver a service and earn a decent income for their families. Most of them strive to provide their best services to ensure that every passenger have a pleasant and enjoyable trip. Should there be any cases of disputes, we encourage both taxi drivers and passengers to take on a proper route to resolving them through the relevant authorities and taxi companies. They should not take the law into their own hands to resolve the disputes.
In the meantime, NTA is providing the necessary assistance to help taxi drivers who have been involved in the above cases.
