The LTA announced on 23 November 2015 that The Go-Ahead Group Plc (Go-Ahead) had successfully secured the second contract for the provision of bus services in Pasir Ris and Punggol.
While the NTWU welcomed the new bus services operator, it also urged Go-Ahead to recognise it.
“NTWU looks forward to working with Go-Ahead to ensure that the affected workers’ welfares are well taken care of; and to continue to build and sustain a strong Singaporean Core in the transport industry,” said NTWU Executive Secretary Ong Chin Ang in a media statement.
Workers Come First
Ahead of that, three key assurances have been included in a contract between the LTA and Go-Ahead.
These include: all affected employees will be offered a job by the incoming operator; their employment terms will not be worse off than what they have previously enjoyed; and affected employees can choose to join the new operator or be redeployed where feasible.
Go-Ahead will take over operations of the new Loyang Bus Depot and 25 bus services from the third-quarter of 2016. SBS Transit currently operates the depot and services.
