NTUC's reply letter to "U Live" membership fee
18 May 2009
We take the opportunity to thank Mr Heng for his feedback and for being a NTUC member for the past 20 years.
U Live is a new platform to engage the seniors community within the Labour Movement (LM). Targeting members aged 55 years and above, we work towards promoting a healthy, enriching and balanced lifestyle so that members can stay engaged, employed and continue to contribute to society. The U Live membership fee, which costs the same as a normal NTUC membership, allows us to offer age-specific benefits, privileges and exclusive events and activities. On top of these, our U Live members can continue to enjoy all the various exclusive benefits under NTUC.
Members who transit from an active work life to one of retirement or semi-retirement are encouraged to continue their relationship with the LM through U Live and to stay engaged with their fellow unionists and friends through the many programmes and activities that will be organised.
Up till recently, NTUC Club ran a programme called the 3rd Chapter which offers annual membership to retirees. This programme had its limitations and is unsustainable in its present form to facilitate the range of activities that we have in mind for active agers. Members of 3rd Chapter whose memberships have since lapsed are encouraged to join U Live. In recognition of their participation in 3rd Chapter, we are offering them a subsidised U Live membership fee in the first 2 years with $20 and $40 respectively.
Mr Heng might also be pleased to know that NTUC is considering the suggestions on long-serving unionists to join U Live at lower rates when they go into retirement.
