NTUC's reply letter to “Dons allege bias in NTU policy on tenure” (ST, 20 February)

"Education Services Union goes the extra mile to help its members"
Dear Editor,
I refer to the article, “Dons allege bias in NTU policy on tenure” (ST, 20 February). The Education Services Union (ESU) would like to clarify our position on this matter.
It is untrue that ESU turned away the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) faculty staff when they sought the help of the union. When they raised their grievances to the union, we did our best to help mediate between them and the NTU management.
We separately met the faculty staff’s representative on five occasions and the NTU management on three occasions to seek conciliation between them. The NTU management offered to arrange a meeting for the aggrieved faculty staff to meet the NTU Provost. The faculty staff declined the offer as they were dissatisfied with management's response towards an earlier query on the issue raised by them.
As our intervention and conciliation efforts between the two parties were not successful, the matter has been brought to the attention of the Ministry of Manpower. We will continue to engage both parties to seek an amicable solution.
