NTUC’S RESPONSE TO CHANGES TO THE CABINET AND OTHER APPOINTMENTS

The National Trades Union Congress welcomes the appointment of Mr Gan Kim Yong as Minister for Manpower. We also welcome the appointment of Mr Lee Yi Shyan as Minister of State in the Ministry of Manpower.

Minister Gan has contributed much to the strengthening of tripartism in Singapore. Under his leadership, the Manpower Ministry has worked in close partnership with the Labour Movement and employers in the formulation of manpower policies and programmes. He also spearheaded the launching of the Skills Programme for Upgrading and Resilience (SPUR) and Professional Skills Programme (PSP), which have been instrumental in helping workers and companies cope with the economic downturn. We congratulate Minister Gan and look forward to working closely with him and his Ministry to upturn the downturn for the benefits of our workers and businesses.

John De Payva
President
