Today, the National Trades Union Congress’ (NTUC) U FSE and digital platform company, Tueetor, signed a Collaborative Agreement to outline Tueetor’s intention to sponsor up to one-year of NTUC union membership subscription fees for Tueetor’s 6-month or 1-year T.Pak™ subscribers, who are freelance academic tutors. U FSE’s partnership with Tueetor is a first for NTUC in the freelancing space and charts a new way forward for the freelancing community in its relationship with digital platform companies. About 1,000 freelance academic tutors will benefit from this agreement.

As independent workers, freelancers typically lack access to benefits and structured training. Through this U FSE-Tueetor collaboration, the freelancing tutor community now has more support with access to benefits and training assistance under the NTUC union membership. Under this agreement, Tueetor will sponsor, on a one-time basis, 6-month or one year of NTUC union membership subscription fees corresponding with the subscriber’s 6-month or 1-year T.Pak™ subscription term. This is only applicable to first time T.Pak™ subscriber.

This group of T.Pak™ subscribers will also benefit from:

a) $250 NTUC Union Training Assistance Programme (UTAP) support per calendar year;
b) access to profession-relevant masterclasses and courses;
c) exclusive deals and discounts from NTUC’s merchant partners.

Tueetor and U FSE will also be working closely to organise activities and develop programmes of direct relevance and value to the freelancing tutor community.

Going forward
"As the future of work evolves, the NTUC will work closely with like-minded digital platform companies to define what are fair terms of contracting between freelancers and service buyers; and between freelancers and the platform companies; to develop an ecosystem of support for freelancers”, said Ms Jean See, U FSE Acting Director. “Doing so will give freelancers the confidence to invest in their professionalism and development. Having established with Tueetor a new model of bi-partite collaboration, U FSE will reach out to more digital platform companies to replicate and strengthen the wage, welfare and work prospects of more groups of freelancers.”

As the economy continues to transform, U FSE will step up efforts to develop the freelancing ecosystem and enhance support for those who have chosen freelancing as a career. U FSE is also in talks with Institutes of Higher Learning to see how to better provide for freelancers in the area of training and work prospects.

Said Tueetor’s founder, Mr Tan Han Sing, “Tueetor is an education technology platform looking to introduce to the local freelancer workforce and community, creative and sustainable career options in teaching. There are 500+ skills and subjects on Tueetor that a freelancer can teach. In ways more than one, these objectives are aligned with NTUC, making the NTUC the choice strategic partner to launch our services with. In addition to matching freelance trainers with learners here in Singapore, Tueetor will also be launching its proprietary Video-on-Demand and Virtual Classroom modules very soon. This will allow Singaporean trainers and educators to connect and export their knowledge to the world. These opportunities, made possible by technology and trend, will help further improve the employability, social status and wellbeing of not just NTUC members, but Singaporeans in general”
