A group of NTUC members representing the Labour Movement are stepping up their moves to celebrate Singapore’s biggest birthday bash.
This year, NTUC Central Committee member and SIA Engineering Company Engineers and Executives Union (SEEU) General Secretary Ong Hwee Liang will lead the NTUC National Day Parade (NDP) contingent as its Contingent Commander.
“It is a privilege to be given this opportunity to lead this year's NTUC NDP contingent. The preparatory work and rehearsals offer a refreshing learning experience.
“I am happy to train and march alongside many sisters and brothers both young and old, reflecting All CAN (Collars, Ages, and Nationalities) in our Labour Movement,” said Mr Ong.
Being personally involved in this year’s Parade brings a change in perspective and atmosphere for Mr Ong, who would usually watch the NDP on television at home.
“Nothing beats being where the action is. I am sure everyone in the contingent would do his or her best to put up a good show and a memorable NDP 2012 Parade for the whole nation.
“I also hope the theme of this year's NDP – Loving Singapore, Our Home – would bring about more tolerance and inclusiveness in our society,” added Mr Ong.
This year, Amalgamated Union of Public Employees (AUPE) Vice-President Ng Hee Seng takes on a new role as the Deputy Contingent Commander, after having been the Contingent’s Left Marker for many years.
Mr Ng looks forward to the special NS45 segment which will pay tribute to all National Servicemen and those who have supported National Service (NS).
“This year being the 45th year of NS and being an NSman myself, it is a very special feeling to be involved in NDP 2012.
“NSmen, past and present, as well as their families and employers who have contributed to NS are given tribute for their sacrifices,” he said.
