NTUC Membership today launched a holistic 3-stage learning programme that aids and nurtures a PME member’s career on their journey to be a future leader at the workplace. The programme primarily targets professionals, managers, executives (PME), members of the Labour Movement, including young entrepreneurs, business owners and those making mid-career switches, across all industries.
Singapore’s workforce has evolved with more PMEs in the workplace. A poll last year by NTUC Membership among over 850 PMEs found that 35 per cent of PMEs felt there could be more support at the workplace for their skills upgrading and continuous learning.
NTUC Membership today launched the following 3-stage Future Leaders Programme aimed at enriching and supporting our PMEs:
1. Future Leaders Summit (25 CEOs/leaders with 1,000 PMEs)
The changing economic landscape presents a multitude of challenges for local PMEs. To help them be future-ready, NTUC presented more than 25 outstanding industry leaders to share their inspiring life stories and practical career advice with PMEs in Future Leaders Summit 2013. More than a thousand tickets were sold out we received many positive testimonials from both participants and speakers.
Through the second Future Leaders Summit 2014 (6-7 June 2014 at NTUC Centre Auditorium, Level 7, One Marina Boulevard), internationally lauded trailblazers from Google, McDonald’s, Microsoft, SAP, StarHub, Twitter, UBS; entrepreneurs such as founders of Eighteen Chefs, Charles & Keith, PropNex; pioneers & explorers such as Singapore Women’s Everest team, Singapore’s first Cannes winning director Anthony Chen, and such speakers will point the way for those seeking fulfilment of their dreams in their professional and personal lives. The Summit offers over 1,000 seats over 2-days.
Mr Lim Swee Say, Secretary-General of NTUC and Mr Heng Chee How, Deputy Secretary–General of NTUC will be gracing the first and second day of the 2-day summit respectively as special hosts from the Labour Movement.
We are also pleased to announce Singapore Exchange Limited (SGX) as a strategic partner of NTUC Membership for the Future Leaders Summit 2014. For more details, the public can visit www.futureleadersummit.sg or call 6213 8810.
2. Future Leaders Series (1 CEO/leader in fireside chat with 100 participants)
A series of fireside chats have been launched since September 2013 by NTUC Membership in response to the current up-skilling needs of our workforce while providing platforms to network with inspiring role models and peers. The last Fireside Chat with Tan Suee Chieh, Group CEO of NTUC Enterprise and winner of Outstanding CEO award, on 12 February 2014 saw over 200 PMEs engaging in an active dialogue with him.
This program would be supported by a range of specialist workshops with partners such as Institution of Engineers Singapore (IES), Singapore Human Resource Institute (SHRI), Adam Khoo Learning Technologies Group (AKLTG), NextU, etc.
3. Future Leaders Mentorship Sessions (1 CEO/leader with 10 participants)
This new initiative is designed to help participants achieve personal success with the help of a mentoring session. Small groups of 10 - 15 members will have the chance to engage CEOs in a closed-door session over coffee. These sessions will be held frequently with illustrious leaders such as Mr Ken Ng, CEO of NTUC Income and Sandeep Suvarna, Head of Consumer Marketing - Asia Pacific & Japan, LinkedIn. NTUC members can register their interest to take part in these mentorship sessions by writing-in to fls@ntuc.org.sg. There would be a preference for NTUC Members who have taken part in Future Leaders Summit or Series.
“The Labour Movement now represents over 260,000 PMEs in Singapore. The 3-stage Future Leaders Programme is a new initiative designed to support their career progression aspirations. Future Leaders Mentorship Sessions are a unique way to help our PME members get a rare opportunity to meet a CEO in person and interact with him/her over a coffee,” said Vivek Kumar, Secretary of NTUC Membership Council.
“Today’s young professionals and executives are keen to upgrade themselves with new qualifications and job skills. Learning how to manage your own finances is also essential if you aspire to be a leader in the work-place. Long-term investing is an essential part of financial management and SGX is committed to helping Singaporeans enhance their investing knowledge by working with partners like the NTUC. We look forward to this Future Leaders Summit 2014 and collaborating on other engagement activities for PMEs throughout the next year,” said Lynn Gaspar, Head of Retail Investors at SGX.
“The 3-stage programme motivates through dialogue, mentors our young leaders and helps them to master new skills for future challenges in their careers. Who knows, we might just be grooming Singapore’s very own Steve Jobs,” added Vivek.
