With former Manpower Minster Lim Swee Say having retired from the Cabinet on 1 May 2018, the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) Central Committee has made the decision to appoint Mr Lim to the following NTUC appointments with effect from 1 May 2018:
a) Trustee of NTUC
b) Chairman of NTUC Administration and Research Unit (ARU) Board of Trustees
c) Advisor to NTUC Training Council
Trustee of NTUC and Chairman of NTUC Administration and Research Unit Board of Trustees
Mr Lim Boon Heng, who has been serving both as Trustee of NTUC and as Chairman of NTUC ARU Board of Trustees since 2007, has relinquished these two appointments with effect from 1 May 2018. The NTUC Central Committee has expressed its deep appreciation to Mr Lim for his astute stewardship and thought leadership as one of the custodians of NTUC’s assets and for his valuable inputs to the human resource management of NTUC ARU.
The handing over of this important baton from one former NTUC Secretary-General to another former NTUC Secretary-General, both who have served our working people truly with their hearts and minds during their terms, marks a significant moment for the Labour Movement (LM) as we strive to be a strong, relevant and representative LM for our working people.
As one of the Trustees of NTUC, Mr Lim Swee Say will watch over NTUC’s assets in accordance with our corporate governance practices, together with former NTUC Presidents John De Payva and Diana Chia; and former NTUC Deputy Secretary-General Matthias Yao Chih. As Chairman of NTUC ARU Board of Trustees, he will oversee the management of manpower capabilities and resources in ARU so that ARU staff can better serve NTUC, our members and working people.
Advisor to NTUC Training Council
Additionally, Mr Lim Swee Say has been appointed as Advisor to the new NTUC Training Council given his deep commitment to, and knowledge and experience in workers’ training.
On 19 April 2018, NTUC Secretary-General Chan Chun Sing announced that NTUC has convened a Training Council that will focus on permeating training as a way of life for our working people. The NTUC Training Council will work through our LM networks (including unions, U Associates, U SME (small and medium-sized enterprises), U FSE (freelancers and self-employed) and training partners) and collaborate with government agencies and employers to identify career and training opportunities, curate training and mobilise working people to go for skills upgrading so that they can stay ahead of challenges taking place in our economy.
The Labour Movement welcomes Mr Lim Swee Say back into its fold to help working people earn a better living and live a better life.
