An estimated 1,200 elderly citizens living in the vicinity of the five NTUC Eldercare Co-operative Limited’s Senior Activity Centres (Silver ACE Centres) in Singapore will soon be able to gain access to complimentary health monitoring on a regular basis. This was announced by NTUC Enterprise Co-operative Limited Chairman, Mr Lim Boon Heng, at the opening of NTUC Unity Healthcare Co-operative Limited’s 50th Unity Pharmacy outlet at 100AM, formerly known as Amara Shopping Centre. Member of Parliament for Radin Mas Single Member Constituency, Mr Sam Tan, was also present to grace the occasion.
NTUC Unity Healthcare will help to set up basic equipment to facilitate self-help health checks for measurement of blood pressure and weight at the five Silver ACE centres located in Henderson, Telok Blangah, Lengkok Bahru, Taman Jurong and Redhill.
“Every three months, NTUC Unity pharmacists will also monitor blood glucose levels, conduct medication review and provide counselling to these seniors,” said Mr Lim. These services will be provided at no charge. The intent as NTUC Unity Healthcare Chief Executive Officer, Mr Chua Song Khim, said, is to extend the footprint of the company so that families and communities can easily access their pharmacists’ services as well as healthcare and wellness products.
In conjunction with the opening of NTUC Unity Healthcare’s 50th pharmacy outlet, 50 elderly members of NTUC Eldercare’s Silver ACE Centre were given a year’s supply of housebrand supplements suitable for their existing health conditions.
“We hope that these will go some way in preserving their health and preventing future illnesses,” shared Mr Lim.
Mr Foong Ban Fatt from the Lengkok Bahru Silver ACE Centre said in appreciation: “If not for the generous sponsorship by NTUC Unity, I would not be able to afford these supplements. I’m grateful that these supplements will be able to help me stay in good health as I age.”
