Ever wondered the meaning of the big ‘U’ representing the Labour Movement? What was NTUC FairPrice originally called? Names of the programmes set up by NTUC in the 80s and 90s? The answers, our friend, is waiting on the 10th floor.

It hasn’t always been bright lights, striking skylines, 24-hour feasting at hawker centres and merrymaking over the weekends in the Lion City. The Singapore we know today has come a long way – there was a time it faced a severe food shortage, massive unemployment and labour unrest. Did you know that between April and September 1955 alone, there were 214 strikes? That’s plenty of strikes for a tiny island!

Back to the present day, One Marina Boulevard, NTUC’s 10th floor. A small team has put together a visual journey of the Labour Movement – from the founding years to the present day and the vision for the future.

We are not saying this is going to be similar to a walk through the world-famous Louvre Museum in Paris. All we’re saying is, it’s a 10- to 15-minute, bite-sized understanding of the Labour Movement’s journey.
Stop by the next time you’re around…
