We thank Mr. Ko Yee Sing (“为何职总要三个月处理退会手续?”; 23 Mar 2013, Pg 24) for his feedback and wish to share the value of NTUC Membership and why there is a three months’ notice period for cancellation.
NTUC brings a wide array of Work, Learn, Live & Play privileges to our members. Over 6,000 Union Leaders from our affiliated Unions strive to promote members’ interests and welfare at the workplace, by providing them with advisory & representation assistance. To enhance employability, we support our members’ skills upgrading with grants and subsidies on over 600 courses. In addition, our members can stretch their dollar with privileges at NTUC Social Enterprises such as FairPrice, FoodFare, First Campus, and hundreds of participating merchant partners. Union Membership also comes with group insurance coverage of up to $30,000 for members up to 65 years of age.
Hence, it is with regret that we learnt of Mr. Ko’s decision to cancel his membership. We have explained to him the reasons for the notice period of 3 months. For example, the notice period would allow members who are currently undergoing NTUC-subsidised training courses to continue enjoying their subsidies; give members sufficient time to redeem their LinkPoints earned; and allow members who change their minds to reinstate their membership at no additional cost. Although the notice period is part of the membership application, we do waive the condition in a number of cases upon due consideration.
