Taking place on 7 April 2013, the NTUC Income RUN 350 has become a unique event in the local running calendar. The first edition of the eco-run debuted in 2010 and saw 1,000 runners at Pulau Ubin.
Riding on the success, the event shifted to the Marina Bay area in the second year with more than 7,000 runners. This year, NTUC Income cemented its participation to become the race presenter of the Run.
Into its fourth year, the event continues to champion a list of green initiatives such as the use of bio-diesel fuel for race activities. The race pack collection also utilised a paper-less registration process.
Runners are encouraged to carpool or cycle on race day, as bicycle racks are available on-location.
Race Director Robin Goh explained that Young NTUC’s intention is to use cause-based programmes to reach out to working youths. Furthermore, it is a platform for unions to leverage on and engage their members.
Mr Goh said: “We have worked closely with NTUC Membership Department to create a bundle package with the Run. It is heartening to know this recruitment had attracted more than 990 new members.”
Deputy Race Director Victoria Yee shared that preparations for the Run began in September 2012. Starting from stakeholder engagement session, plans were made for the event launch as well as the various training clinics to be scheduled.
“It was an enriching experience working with various stakeholders and partners” said Ms Yee.
Coupled with the environmental initiatives, Assistant Race Director Lynette Hee encourages participants to continue to go green and reduce their carbon footprint.
Moving forward, an invitation will also be extended to the runners to take part in the Plant-A-Tree Programme later this year. Ultimately, the team hopes everyone from young to old will be able to enjoy the race to the fullest.
