16 August 2017: NTUC Income launched today a first-of-its-kind reporting app that allows motor policyholders to file an accident report remotely.
Called the Accident Reporting by Income, the app is particularly useful for those who find difficulty in filing an accident report in person within the required 24 hours.
In accordance with the Motor Claims Framework by the General Insurance Association of Singapore, motorists are required to report an accident within 24 hours of the accident or risk having their No Claims Discount penalised.
Time Saved, Convenient
According to Income, about 10 per cent of accident reports they receive miss the 24-hour deadline.
Compared to the conventional way of reporting, which requires the driver to come in person to Income’s appointed Accident Reporting Centres (ARCs) and that could take up to half a day, the app only takes about 10 minutes.
The app guides motorists on reporting through a step-by-step process in the event of an accident. The first part of the reporting process is required to be done immediately after the accident and includes submitting photographs of the accident scene, and damages and licence plates of both parties’ vehicles.
To enhance road safety and mitigate stress faced by the motorist, the remaining information can be filed anytime within 24 hours of the accident.
Accidents involving injuries are not eligible to be reported through the app. Instead, motorists will have to make a police report, and such accidents must be reported in person at ARCs.
The Accident Reporting by Income app is now available for download on Google Play Store for Android users and will be available for iOS users next month.
