NTUC GB Scholarship Awards and Education Grants 2006

Dear Editor,
1 NTUC Scholarship Awards and Education Grants worth more $100,000 will be given out to 659 children of union members on 16 and 17 of September at NTUC auditorium.
2. NTUC Scholarship Awards and Education Grants are given out annually to award excellent academic achievement by the children of the members or to assist needy members of their children’s education expenses.

3. The GB (General Branch) scholarship is only open to General Branch union members whose children are currently pursuing studies in a recognized local institution or university. The scholarships, ranging from $100 to $1,000, are granted based on academic performance.
4. Education Grant is a one-off S$100 assistance to help members meeting the school year expenses for their children.
5. Seng Han Thong, Assistant Secretary-General, NTUC, said:. “This year, we are happy to give away 196 NTUC Scholarship Awards, which amount to $55,300. This is 25% increase from $44,200 given out in last year’s Award.”
6. As for the Education Grants, he said: “This year, 464 students will benefit from the NTUC Education Grants, totaling $46,400. Last year, we gave out $18,900.”
7. NTUC is committed to assist needy union members through various schemes. The recently announced 1.6 Million Care and Share Vouchers and the earlier $1m Family Recreation Fund Vouchers are good examples.
8. Family members of the successful applicants will witness the memorable occasion together with the invited friends and relatives.
