Thanks to a new partnership, NTUC First Campus teachers (NFC) can complete their undergraduate degree programmes at Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) up to six months earlier starting 2019.

Designed to help anchor operators develop and retain their teaching staff, the collaboration will allow NFC’s sponsored and nominated pre-school teachers who apply for the Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) undergraduate degree programmes to gain credits for prior learning and cumulative work experience.

A memorandum of understanding between NFC and SUSS was inked today at the opening of My First Skool and afterschool’s Learning and Sharing Festival at the Singapore Expo. The event was graced by Minister for Education Ong Ye Kung.

Credit Recognition Scheme

Interested NFC teachers can choose one of the following part-time programmes:

  • Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (with Minor) programme, with a choice of eight minor specialisations, conducted in English;
  • Bachelor of Early Childhood and Chinese Language Education programme conducted in Mandarin.

Each programme takes about four to five years on average to complete. With up to 20 credit units accorded by SUSS, eligible teachers obtain up to a semester reduction of courses equivalent to six months, or up to four courses.

NFC Chief Executive Officer Chan Tee Seng said: “SUSS’ willingness to accord credit recognition to teachers who are sponsored by NFC is a testament to NFC’s robust in-house curriculum system, professional development, and mentorship support programmes. NFC is honoured to be the first childcare operator to pioneer such a model of partnership with SUSS. It is a strong statement of NFC’s commitment to groom its future leaders, and to help them achieve mastery.”
