With the escalating Covid-19 situation, NTUC FairPrice is making sure the vulnerable segments of the community continue to fulfil their shopping needs with access to daily essentials.

In line with that, it will trial a Priority Shopping Hour from 30 March 2020 for members of the Pioneer Generation (PG), persons with disabilities (PWDs) and pregnant women.

The initiative will run every Monday during the first hour of each FairPrice store’s normal operating hours, and from 7am to 8am for stores that operate 24 hours.

“As we continue to step up precautionary measures to adapt to the evolving Covid-19 situation, it is important to be mindful of those who are vulnerable when they shop for their daily essentials at our stores,” said Seah Kian Peng, Group CEO, FairPrice Group.

He added that the dedicated shopping hour for PG members will help safeguard their well-being and provide them with more time and space.

He added: “We will proactively introduce and review initiatives to better serve the needs of shoppers and protect the interest of the community during this challenging climate.”

Gaining Entry to Priority Hour

To take advantage of the Priority Shopping Hour, PG members need to present their PG Card. They can also enjoy additional discounts from the existing PG Discount Scheme with the existing PG Discount Scheme when they shop on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Pregnant women and PWDs need to only inform staff manning the entrance of the store to gain access during the dedicated hour.

Precautionary Measures for All

These include: Floor markings at check-out queues to encourage customers to observe social distancing; all food sampling to cease till further notice; stepping up of cleaning regimes for railings, trolleys, baskets and checkout counters; taking temperature of staff and suppliers at least twice a day; and making hand sanitisers available for shoppers.

These measures are in line with the Ministry of Health’s and Enterprise Singapore’s safe distancing and safety guidelines.
