NTUC FairPrice Group has launched a purpose-driven retail and F&B space that focuses on supporting home-grown food brands called Food Folks @ Lau Pa Sat.
Set up within the gazetted monument of Lau Pa Sat, the 7,000 sq ft space will act as a launchpad for new and established local brands to increase awareness and grow their businesses.
Food Folks is Singapore’s first locally focused “Everything Food” concept space which blends both retail food and F&B under one roof.
NTUC Enterprise and FairPrice Group CEO Seah Kian Peng officiated the opening on 26 November 2020.
Speaking to the press during the launch, Mr Seah said: “This year, because of COVID-19, the F&B and retail sector have been particularly hard hit. We [FairPrice] are also in this sector, and our F&B has also been affected.
“Therefore, we wanted to do our part to see how we can give all those in this sector a boost, and that is how we came up with this new concept.”
Growing Local Brands
The businesses will be supported by marketing and brand storytelling opportunities by Food Folks over the next year.
This can be in the form of social media campaigns, product sampling, educational workshops and events to help with the brands’ visibility.
Brands can also leverage on Food Folks’ diverse partnerships across retail and food businesses, or with other nearby establishments within the central business district such as gyms, hotels and attractions.
Additionally, retail brands will also enjoy a waiver of their initial set-up fee.
What’s Available?
At press time, Food Folks’ retail space was housing more than 800 food-related items by over 120 different brands.
Seventy per cent of these brands are home-grown, and 40 per cent are not commonly found in major supermarkets.
There are also 10 F&B stalls, ranging from local delicacies such as prawn and fishball noodles to American-styled grilled food.
