1.  NTUC Eldercare and Foundation of Rotary Clubs (S) Ltd announced their collaboration to provide quality and affordable community-based eldercare services to more seniors in the Woodlands community. Located at Blk 172 Woodlands Street 13 #01-303, the day care centre is re-named as NTUC Rotary Silver Circle (Marsiling). The event was graced by Guest-of-Honour Mr Lim Boon Heng, Minister, Prime Minister’s Office, Special Guest Mr David Tong How Heng, Chairman of Foundation of Rotary Clubs (Singapore) Ltd, and other community partners.

2.   The NTUC Eldercare – Rotary collaboration is the first of many more new initiatives of Rotary “Community Services”, to cater to the changing needs of the ageing population. Rotary is primarily a volunteer driven organisation. Providing quality services and care to seniors require professional expertise to ensure excellent standards, its collaboration with NTUC Eldercare allows both organisations to leverage on their resources through volunteerism and professional staff.

3.  With this collaboration, members of the Foundation of Rotary Clubs will volunteer their professional expertise as they work together with staff of NTUC Eldercare to provide quality and affordable eldercare services. One of these initiatives includes providing free medical consultation to the seniors. More seniors can look forward to participate in the day care activities with other peers in the centre, while their children are at work.

4.  Besides providing volunteering services, the Foundation of Rotary Clubs will be donating up to S$120,000 per annum to support the day care programmes at NTUC Rotary Silver Circle (Marsiling). This donation will help to fund the Centre in their operations and to keep the cost affordable to more seniors while providing quality care.

5.  The Singapore Rotary spark was first kindled in 1930 and there are 22 Rotary Clubs in Singapore, with over 700 members – of all races, nationalities and occupations. For over 80 years, Rotary has supported many initiatives and programmes to help the vulnerable, needy and disadvantaged in the community. Its definition of “Community Service” includes not only “services for community needs”, but also “service through business, vocation”.

Conclusion

6. Both the Foundation of the Rotary Clubs & NTUC Eldercare are committed to help seniors and volunteers lead a happy, fulfilling and active lives despite their physical and material constraints.
