NTUC Congratulates Brother Tharman Shanmugaratnam For Being Elected The Ninth President Of Singapore

The National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) extends our heartiest congratulations to Brother Tharman Shanmugaratnam, who has been elected as the ninth President of Singapore during the Presidential Election 2023.

Brother Tharman, Chairman of the Ong Teng Cheong Labour Leadership Institute (OTCi) Board of Governors for over 20 years, has been a tremendous supporter of the Labour Movement’s cause. Through his involvement in various government and tripartite initiatives, he has championed for better wages, welfare and work prospects for our workers, particularly the vulnerable. Brother Tharman’s belief in equality and mutual respect for all has been central to programmes that put workers’ interests at heart.

With his excellent track record and genuine care for our workers and all Singaporeans, Brother Tharman is truly deserving of being our Head of State. NTUC is confident that Brother Tharman’s presidency will further bring Singaporeans together in unity; enhance Singapore’s reputation on the international stage; and guide our nation and people towards a brighter future.
