As part of May Day celebrations, 109 May Day CBF Model Partnership awards will be given out to outstanding individuals and organisations for their achievements in being Cheaper Better Faster (CBF), including a theme party for awardees, partners and families at Universal Studios Singapore.

As part of May Day celebrations this year, 109 May Day CBF Model Partnership awards will be given out to outstanding individuals and organisations for their achievements in being Cheaper Better Faster (CBF), and honours them and their strong partnerships as exemplary models for others to emulate.

For the first time, a pre-ceremony exclusive theme party at Universal Studios Singapore was organised for an inclusive group of awardees and partners to celebrate their achievements. Also for the first time, individual awardees’ families joined the fun at a closed-door party.

Cheaper Better Faster Achievements by An Inclusive Workforce

The National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) shared earlier this year that we will strive to create growth the CBF way, one that is powered by an inclusive workforce. Hence in this May Day, we are highlighting outstanding workers and organisations who deliver exceptional performance and contributions by raising productivity (Cheaper), enhancing competency (Better) and becoming more adaptable (Faster). The workers and organisations will be recognised under two award categories, the Individual and Institutional categories, respectively.

For the Individual Category, 57 awards will be given out to 118 individuals, of whom 61 are partners who play a significant role in supporting the model workers towards becoming CBF. There are four main groups of Individual Category awardees this year, namely Best-in-Class (role models including low-wage workers), Proactive Executives (professionals, managers and executives), Back-to-Work Achievers and Silver Collar Heavyweights.

“The national drive towards a productivity-driven growth is an inclusive one where workers of all collars, ages and nationalities have a part to play in creating a broad-based and sustainable growth,” said Mr Tan Chai Kun, Chairman of the Organising Committee and Member of the NTUC Central Committee. He added, “We pay tribute to our awardees who demonstrated readiness in embracing the changes of a fast evolving economy by constantly upgrading themselves through continuing education and training. They serve as role models who will help Singapore achieve the growth target by being CBF, which in turn will benefit all workers with productivity gains.”

Rewarding Partnerships with an Exclusive Theme Party for Everyone

For the first time, prior to the award ceremony, the Labour Movement organised an exclusive theme party for awardees and their partners to spend an evening of fun, feast, shopping and entertainment at the newly-opened Universal Studios Singapore at Resort World Sentosa on 13 May 2010, Thursday.

Also for the first time, Individual Category awardees invited their families to share their joy and revel in the buoyant mood complete with unique entertainment experience at Singapore’s latest tourist attraction. 54 Individual Category awardees spent a memorable time at the party with 44 partners and 159 family members.

Said Mr N. Silva, Co-Chairman of the Organising Committee and Member of the NTUC Central Committee, “Partners play a significant role in the lifelong employment and learning journey of our workers as their guides, motivators, cheerleaders and collaborators. These partners, at the workplace or personal lives, are the pillars of support to our workers in their journey towards excellence. This strong partnership must be cherished and hence we organised this special closed-door exclusive party for everyone to join in this celebratory event.”

Over 400 awardees, partners, family members and tripartite guests enjoyed a broadway musical revue (Monster Rock™ show), experienced the special effects of a hurricane about to hit New York City (Lights, Camera, Action!™ hosted by Steven Spielberg), shopped for memorabilia and collectibles at Hollywood Boulevard, feasted at New York, and took photographs with characters such as Charlie Chaplin, Betty Boop and Frankenstein. They were hosted by NTUC President John De Payva and NTUC Secretary-General Lim Swee Say, and joined by tripartite special guests Manpower Minister Gan Kim Yong and Singapore National Employers Federation (SNEF) President Stephen Lee.
