For 31-year-old Andy Yip, being able to interact, to engage and to connect with customers and colleagues has been the key ingredient to his happiness in the workplace over the last six years.
A deputy branch manager at UOB’s Shaw Wealth Banking Centre, Andy ensures that his customers receive the best banking experience.
“I find satisfaction in being able to solve problems for others and to help my customers achieve their financial goals and aspirations,” he shared.
UOB has been equipping Andy with the technology-based and design thinking skills through its collaborations with training partners such as NTUC LearningHub so that he is prepared for future roles and responsibilities.
“There are different training programmes available and I have completed 128 hours of training since January last year. Training provides me with the skills I need to thrive in a digitally-connected, inclusive and diverse workplace,” Andy said.
He also shared that NTUC LearningHub’s Managing Diversity course was particularly useful as it provided him with a better understanding of the needs and priorities of different groups of people. As a result, Andy learned how to communicate more effectively with colleagues and customers.
On changes at his workplace, Andy said, “The industry is undergoing digital transformation. To ensure that we are all digital ready, the bank is equipping us with knowledge on technology and innovation such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and machine learning.”
“Learning itself is a lifelong journey and there is never a day when we stop learning. I make use of every learning opportunity from my training and during my daily interactions with customers and colleagues,” he added.
