Mr Vivek Kumar, Director of NTUC Membership Services Division said, “We are glad that more members are utilising and getting more savings from NTUC’s suite of membership benefits. We are always on the lookout for opportunities to do even more for our members. Our year-end campaign has been curated to suit their needs, where we hope to provide comprehensive support – from fulfilling their lifestyle needs, to enhancing employability and providing platforms to seek career opportunities. NTUC is planning to partner more local businesses to provide member discounts and benefits, and to encourage local spending. In turn, we hope these efforts can help to protect businesses and preserve workers’ jobs during this challenging period."
More members utilising benefits and deals
NTUC’s exclusive telecommunications partner, StarHub, will provide offers including mobile subscriptions, broadband and home bundle plans. Between January and August this year, the overall savings for members edged up 30% from 2019. To break it down further to focus only during the Circuit Breaker period from April to May, there was a 21% growth in overall savings compared to the same period last year. For home bundle plans such as HomeHub+ that was recently offered in May 2020, there was over $2.2 million worth of savings from May to September 2020.
Food products and services was another key area that saw a rise in the member usage. More NTUC members utilised offers by partners such as foodpanda, possibly due to the surge in demand for food delivery services this year. The total estimated savings for foodpanda saw an almost 140% increase, compared to 2019. Additionally, the $1 Breakfast Set1 promotion, which ran from 3 July to 31 August 2020 for NTUC Union members at all NTUC Foodfare and Kopitiam food courts and coffee shops, provided Union members with total savings of more than $320,000. With more people working from home during this period, NTUC Union members saved over $6,000 with our food delivery partners like WhyQ.
Year-end campaign to help NTUC members stretch their dollar
As NTUC sees growth in overall savings especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, it will be rolling out a year-end campaign for members from November to December to help its Union members further stretch their dollar. With key partners onboard, such as WhyQ, Popeyes and Nestle, the campaign aims to better meet and fulfil NTUC Union Members’ lifestyle needs during this period as well as prepare them for future careers through training and upgrading programmes.
Union members can look forward to more recreational and leisure activities through NTUC’s partnerships with attractions such as Gardens by the Bay, Science Centre Singapore, Singapore Cable Car and Sentosa. There will also be virtual workshops on topics such as health & wellness, child enrichment and photography. These will provide opportunities for members to bond with their families, especially during the school holiday period.
NTUC also places great emphasis on different ways to support workers in staying relevant, keeping up with the latest technology, skills and knowledge. With the aim to increase members’ employability, more progression and training programmes will be introduced through partnerships with NTUC’s social enterprises and other training partners. With the NTUC Union membership, Union members can also tap on their Union Training Assistance Programme (UTAP) training benefit to upskill and go for training to remain employable.
For example, the U Future Leaders Exchange Programme (UFLX) comprises diverse learning and development programmes catered to Professionals, Managers and Executives (PMEs) across a variety of sectors. UFLX imparts critical workplace survival skills, cross-disciplinary insights and an upskilling edge to PMEs, to assist in tackling complex challenges within the workplace and in their careers. For instance, UFLX collaborates with established partners such as NTUC LearningHub to offer Union Members 200 Free Online Courses which are specially curated to enhance their online learning experience through LHUB GO – Learn200 and by tapping into our vast network of industry leaders, UFLX empowers PMEs with a Future Ready Edge through programmes such as our Adapt to be Adept e-Conference which equips participants with tools to thrive in the post COVID-19 job market.
