More help for healthcare workers and PMEs

During debate on the Population White Paper earlier this month, Labour Members of Parliament (MPs) brought up several issues, perspectives and suggestions.

Labour MP Patrick Tay expressed concerns about the huge strain placed on healthcare employees in meeting the healthcare needs of a growing population.

Although the Singapore Core should remain, the healthcare sector also acknowledged the need to supplement with a foreign workforce to ensure the best care for our people.

PMEs and union members are also worried about their jobs and potential PME openings going to foreign PMEs.

He also suggested a “Conditions Of Eligibility” system for hiring of foreign PMEs for employers to meet before hiring foreign PMEs with conditions such as fulfilment of critical skills gap and labour market testing.
