About 1,000 freelance academic tutors will benefit from a new agreement between NTUC’s Freelancers and Self-Employed Unit (U FSE) and digital platform company Tueetor.

The agreement signed on 8 July 2019 outlines Tueetor’s intentions to sponsor up to one-year of NTUC union membership fees for freelance academic tutors.

This applies to first-time subscribers to T.Pak for six months or one year. T.Pak is Tueetor’s subscription programme.

Through this collaboration, freelance tutors will get more support with access to benefits and training assistance under the NTUC union membership.

They will also receive $250 every year for the NTUC Union Training Assistance Programme (UTAP), access to master-classes and courses, and exclusive deals and discounts from NTUC’s merchant partners.

According to a media release, U FSE said that it will be working closely with Tueetor to organise and develop relevant programmes for the freelance community.

U FSE Acting Director Jean See shared that as the future of work evolves, NTUC will work closely with like-minded digital platform companies to define what are fair terms of contracting between freelancers and service buyers and between freelancers and the platform companies. An ecosystem will also be developed to support freelancers.

She added that doing so will give freelancers the confidence to invest in their professionalism and development.

“U FSE will reach out to more digital platform companies to replicate and strengthen the wage, welfare and work prospects of more groups of freelancers,” said Ms See.

Tueetor founder Tan Han Sing called NTUC a strategic partner as their objectives are aligned.

“In addition to matching freelance trainers with learners here in Singapore, Tueetor will also be launching its proprietary video-on-demand and virtual classroom modules very soon. This will allow Singaporean trainers and educators to connect and export their knowledge to the world.

“These opportunities, made possible by technology and trend, will further improve the employability, social status and wellbeing of not just NTUC members, but Singaporeans in general,” he added.
