Mr Mohd Taufek Abdul Rahim joined the Singapore Port Workers Union (SPWU) as a member in December 1988 and was elected as a delegate in 2007. He became secretary to the executive council in 2010 before being elected as a full member of the executive council. He is currently the 1st assistant general treasurer of the union.
An advocate of prudent spending in the union, he constantly urges his committee members to adopt best sourcing for good useful souvenirs for members whilst always keeping a watchful eye on the budget.
On the industrial relations front, Mr Taufek is a leader who is well-regarded by his members. As an assistant service engineer, he not only mentors and leads younger technicians in their duties, but also assists his supervisors in various projects. As a member of the Engineering Divisional Committee, members readily approach him to provide feedback on union initiatives or workplace issues. He often raise these issues with key leaders of the union or the management partners of the departments at his workplace. He is a quietly discerning and mature leader and members trust him to raise their issues to relevant parties promptly.
Mr Taufek has also been actively involved in other SPWU Committees both past and present, taking on roles in the Industrial Relations and Industrial Health and Safety Committees. At the NTUC level, Mr Taufek has been an alternate committee member of the NTUC Workplace Safety and Health Committee since December 2014.
