Here’s a golden opportunity for employers to pay the salaries of their foreign workers electronically and make it easier for them to send the money home to their loved ones.
The Migrant Workers’ Centre (MWC) has tied up with POSB to launch the new MWC-POSB Membership programme.
It will benefit new arrivals of foreign workers from 1 April 2018 and existing workers already here from the fourth quarter of 2018.
Several partners are also on board the membership programme.
They offer exclusive benefits to foreign workers in the areas of insurance coverage, telco services and air travel.
Sending Money Back
Before newly-arrived work permit holders can be entitled to the MWC-POSB membership, their employer must open a POSB account for them.
Next, the worker has to activate the ATM/MWC-POSB Membership card by visiting the POSB Account Services Centre at the Kaki Bukit Recreation Centre.
Once that has been done, workers can send money back to to Bangladesh, India, Indonesia and the Philippines using the online banking services.
DBS Bank said its staff will visit dormitories to educate workers on using the POSB jolly app to remit money back home.
The app helps workers remit money overseas and top up their prepaid SIM cards easily.
Other Benefits
Workers can also sign up for a new and affordable Migrant Worker Group Insurance with NTUC Income.
To call back home, StarHub Mobile is providing attractive prepaid offers with this membership.
They can also enjoy discounts on airfares and seasonal package offers from participating travel agencies.
NTUC Secretary-General (SG) Chan Chun Sing met MWC’s partners during a breakfast session held in conjunction with the membership launch on 22 February 2018.
“The Labour Movement wants to reach out to all workers in Singapore, including the foreign workers here. If the foreign workers have a good experience working in Singapore, it will be a good testimony of how we as a country take care of the people working amongst us, including the non-Singaporeans,” emphasised SG Chan.
Outreach To Current Workers
Meanwhile, migrant workers who are already working here have not been forgotten.
MWC will be reaching out to them from September this year.
It is working with POSB to allow existing workers with POSB accounts to sign up for the membership via the POSB jolly app.
Once that is done, the migrant worker will receive a digital membership card which can be used to redeem the benefits.
MWC said this feature will be available by the fourth quarter of this year.
