The May Day Awards 2017 is all about showcasing the inclusiveness of the growing Labour Movement in Singapore.
On 13 May 2017, the Labour Movement will honour the contributions of outstanding individuals and partners in advancing the interests of working people in Singapore at the Orchid Country Club.
Today, the Labour Movement serves over 1.25 million Singaporeans through the unions, U Associate, U SME (small- and medium-sized enterprises) and U FSE (freelancers and self-employed).
Awards Segments
There will be three segments for the awards this year.
The first segment includes the top categories like the Medal of Honour, the Distinguished Service and Meritorious Service medals, Comrade of Labour (Star), Medal of Commendation (Gold) and Plaque of Commendation (Gold).
In this category, the Labour Movement honours special individuals, trade unionists, management partners and companies with its most prestigious May Day Awards.
NTUC said they exemplify the spirit and cause of the Labour Movement through their unwavering commitment to deliver outstanding services and contributions.
In the second segment, the awards being given out are the Comrade of Labour, Veteran of Labour, Friend of Labour, the Medal of Commendation and the Plaque of Commendation.
NTUC will honour trade unionists, individuals and organisations who have demonstrated a continuous track record in supporting the Labour Movement in promoting and implementing progressive workplace practices in companies.
Special recognition is also accorded to retired trade unionists who have served at least 15 years continuously with the Veteran of Labour award.
New Category
The third segment is the Partners Award, a new category for this year.
It recognises individuals and companies within the U Network, including unionised companies and partners, for their efforts to further the Labour Movement’s vision to serve and help all working people navigate through the economic transformation and rapid digitalisation.
Also recognised, partners who have made contributions towards uplifting working people’s jobs and welfare and have helped prepare working people for future growth, jobs and skills.
