Ms Mary Chan Hin Kiaw, a nurse clinician in Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH), was involved in trade unionism for many years before becoming branch chairman of the Healthcare Services Employees’ Union (HS...) KTPH Branch and assistant general secretary of the union in 2011.
Ms Chan often goes the extra mile for members. Despite her busy schedule, she stays committed to her union work and dedicates her time to addressing issues on the ground with compassion and fairness. As she flows on in two years’ time, Ms Chan currently focuses on mentoring younger branch leaders and is always the first to help whenever they encounter difficulties.
Under her leadership, she has helped forge strong labour-management relations based on mutual trust. Her in-depth knowledge in industrial relations enables her to give valuable advice to members and front grievance cases. She participates actively in dialogues and engagements at the union, ministry and NTUC levels to further the interests of healthcare workers.
At the NTUC level, she represented HSEU in the Industrial Relations (Service) Committee from 2014 to 2015 and Women’s Committee from 2011 to 2015. She has been representing HSEU in the U Live Committee since November 2015. She also works closely with KTPH’s management to support back-to-work women initiatives.
