Making workers lives better

After reaching out to some 60,000 workers in 2012, NTUCs e2i (Employment and Employability Institute) plans to bring its touch to even more as it moves forward.

With workers’ training and skilling up as the heartbeat of NTUC’s e2i (Employment and Employability Institute), the year forward will remain upbeat in the same vein. There was progress made, hopes achieved and dreams realised in the lives of a good 60,000 workers with NTUC e2i’s touch in 2012.

Looking ahead this year, a brand new Devan Nair Institute for Employment and Employability, the Continuing Education and Training (CET) campus with better capabilities and bigger capacity, will bring with it more synergies to reach out to even more workers.

With this backdrop, NTUC’s e2i will work more closely with the tripartite partners to push out initiatives focusing on several key segments of the workforce, especially the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), older workers, back-to-work women and PMEs (Professionals, Managers and Executives) who can go a long way with some assistance.

While the “3P” approach of Placements, Professional Development and Productivity Improvements embracing workers and businesses is well in place, NTUC's e2i will also take on the path for “mass adoption” strategy as highlighted by NTUC’s e2i (Employment and Employability Institute) Acting Chief Executive Officer Gilbert Tan. Mass adoption of technology, for instance, is one way through which significant productivity gains from its outcome can help alleviate manpower shortage.

He added: “On reducing the income gap, we will push out initiatives to help low-wage workers enhance their skills, productivity, career advancement and wage progression; these are efforts in line with the Labour Movement’s push for the Progressive Wage Model.”

In this aspect, NTUC’s e2i will work closely with the industries to encourage them to hop on to the Inclusive Growth Programme (IGP) bandwagon so that they can share their productivity gains with workers through higher wages.
