Ma Wei Cheng, advisor of the Amalgamated Union of Public Employees
Mr Ma Wei Cheng became a union leader in the Amalgamated Union of Public Employees (AUPE) in 1974 to improve the employment terms and conditions of the colleagues in the company he works in.
He advocated for the right of union leaders to represent members in the civil service charged under disciplinary proceedings of the Public Service Commission. He has also served as Member of the Public Service Commission Panel of Union Officials for eight years (1997-2004) where he represented many members at disciplinary inquiries.
At the NTUC level, he chaired the Industrial Relations Committee (Public Sector) and the Public Services Cluster from 2011 to 2015. He also played a key role in major union negotiations, conciliation and arbitration cases.
His efforts have helped thousands of public employees in uplifting wages through salary revisions, getting quantitative wage adjustment in response to National Wages Council guidelines, and working longer with the implementation of re-employment from age 65 to 67 in the public sector.
