25 February 2022 – The National Trades Union Congress (“NTUC”) and Yayasan MENDAKI (“MENDAKI”) had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) on 24 February 2022 to enhance support and strengthen workforce competencies and secure job placements for more Malay/Muslim workers in emerging and growth sectors. The MOU signing ceremony was attended by Mr Chee Hong Tat, Deputy Secretary-General, NTUC; Mr Zaqy Mohamad, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Manpower and Deputy Chairman, MENDAKI; Mr Mohd Fahmi Aliman, Director, NTUC and Mayor, South East District and Mdm Zuraidah Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer, MENDAKI.

The MOU is part of M3 Focus Area 4 (FA4)’s key strategy to uplift the community. Through M3 FA4, NTUC and MENDAKI hope to enhance the capability of our workforce through skills upgrading and lifelong learning initiatives, thereby strengthening resilience and ensuring their employability in the future. This focus area will continue to target a range of jobseekers from mature jobseekers (40 years and above), PMET (Professionals, Managers, Executives, and Technicians) jobseekers (mid-career switchers), fresh graduates, young workers and the general community (including the self-employed, vulnerable and lower-wage workers).

Under the MOU, MENDAKI will act as the main bridge to encourage the Malay/Muslim community and workforce to take up national employment and employability programmes. In addition, MENDAKI will also partner and refer Malay/Muslim individuals to NTUC LearningHub and NTUC’s e2i (Employment and Employability Institute) for training and job placement programmes through last-mile service delivery provided by MENDAKI Care Advisors and Future Ready programmes. From this year, all MENDAKI Satellite Centres and Youth Spaces will be made more accessible for jobseekers to access resources and career advisory services with ease.

As the lead organisation for M3 FA4 Taskforce, NTUC will spearhead activities relating to upskilling, training, career fairs, and partnering companies to provide job placement opportunities in emerging and growth sectors. NTUC will also partner with MENDAKI Future Ready programmes for youth and PMETs with Young NTUC, NTUC LearningHub, and NTUC’s e2i. NTUC will also work with MENDAKI to leverage its Satellite Centres and Youth Spaces as possible venues for targeted outreach and training spaces. More details will be shared in due course.

Mr Mohd Fahmi Aliman, Director, NTUC, shares, “Cost of living remains as workers’ core concern. The best approach is to enable our workers to access better jobs, earn better wages with better skills. The NTUC-MENDAKI partnership is a prime example how NTUC continues to enlarge our efforts on this front, forging collaborations with community-based and self-help organisation partners to enhance our reach to workers and communities that would benefit from our national-level resources in training and job placement.”

Mdm Zuraidah Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer, MENDAKI says, “I am delighted with the formalisation of the partnership between NTUC and MENDAKI through the MOU. Through this partnership, NTUC and MENDAKI would be able to leverage on each other’s strength and resources to provide targeted and holistic assistance to our workers. This will help to strengthen the competencies of the Malay/Muslim workforce and prepare them to join the emerging and growth sectors”.
