MEDIA RELEASE

The Family Recreation FUNd (FRF) is an initiative by NTUC Club to help lower-income union members and their families achieve a better work and family life balance through NTUC Club’s recreational facilities. For the past three years since 2005, NTUC Club has been distributing $1 million worth of FRF vouchers each year. This year, NTUC Club has improved the programme by organising four quarterly family-day outings for lower-income families.  This would cost NTUC Club $1 million in total.

Go cashless on Sunday, 15 June 2008!
2 Union members who fulfilled the criteria of household income of less than $2,500 or per capita income of not more than $500 will be eligible to participate in the Family Recreation & Fun Carnival 08/09 with their families. For these members, NTUC Club provided a full packaged day-out, including free two-way transportation at designated locations so that they could enjoy their weekend without the additional cost that usually accompanies a family outing. Please see Annex A for detailed list of pick-up points.

3 In their goodie bags, they also received food coupons and complimentary games coupons that can be used at Wild Wild Wet, Escape Theme Park and eXplorerkid etc. As an added benefit, NTUC Club offered a fully subsidised 3-year nEbO membership to children of the FRF recipients who are full-time students aged 12-21.  To round off their fruitful day, all members were entitled to a grand lucky draw, where 1,000 prizes were given away! The grand winner walked away with a 32-inch LCD TV.

4 The first outing took place on Sunday, 15 June 2008, which saw about 3,000 families having a fun-filled day at Downtown East. The subsequent three runs will occur on 31 August 2008, 14 December 2008 and 15 March 2009 respectively. In total, NTUC Club will benefit 10,000 lower-income families by the end of the fourth run in March 2009.

5 Mr Zainudin Nordin, Director of NTUC Care and Share, said, “We are aware that families are trying their best to cope with the rising cost of living.  As an inclusive Labour Movement, we want to provide lower-income families an avenue to enjoy themselves without straining their pockets. That is why we have adjusted the programme to meet their needs by including free transport and food so that they do not need to spend extra money going to Downtown East.”

6 For members of the public who would like to head down to Downtown East with their families, NTUC Club offers affordable family packages for all, starting from $37.50.  Union members who purchase the packages will also get further discounts.
