Launch of Singapore Contact Bowl "Drop A Card, Win A Prize"
The Singapore Contact Bowl is an NTUC-initiated national project to encourage people to drop their contact details into specially-designated bowls at public venues that they patronise. Tied to this project will be incentive programmes like lucky draws, in which patrons who drop their contact details stand a chance to win prizes.
The project will be launched on 2 May 03, 11.30am at the Sophia Ballroom, Raffles City Convention Centre by Mr Lim Boon Heng, Minister in the Prime Minister's Office and NTUC Secretary-General.
The Singapore Contact Bowl encourages the public to help themselves by staying in touch. By dropping their name cards or filling in a simple card to be dropped into the bowl, patrons ensure that they will be alerted swiftly if there is a SARS case outbreak in any of the places they had visited.
Getting involved in the Singapore Contact Bowl is a simple step. At the same time, it allows people to be in control as they go about their normal routines even with the presence of SARS. The contact cards will be collected at least once a day, and will be kept by the participating outlet for a period, say 2-weeks, before being destroyed if they are not needed for contact tracing. The cards will be kept in strict confidentiality.
The first phase of the project will include retail shops, shopping centres, restaurants, cinemas and hotels. The list of participating outlets is enclosed. As the project kicks off, more participating outlets are expected to come onboard.

NTUC FAIRPRICE CO-OPERATIVE LTD
NTUC FairPrice is the first supermarket retailer to participate in the Singapore Contact Bowl. To do that, NTUC FairPrice will be riding on its current 30th Anniversary Grand Draw promotion.
As part of its 30th Anniversary celebrations, NTUC FairPrice launched a grand draw contest on 25 April 2003. Customers who make a minimum purchase of $30 at any of its stores during the period from 25 April to 4 June, 2003, will be entitled to participate in the grand draw. Each will be given a machine-generated lucky draw coupon at the point of purchase. Customers will have to fill in their particulars - name, contact number and address - on the coupons and drop them into the lucky draw boxes provided in all FairPrice stores.
Starting Monday, 5 May 2003, NTUC FairPrice has decided to waive the minimum $30 purchase condition. This will allow more, if not all, customers to participate in the draw. To further entice customers to provide their contact particulars, NTUC FairPrice has also added three more attractive prizes to the grand draw. In addition to the three grand prizes of winning 300 weeks of free shopping (worth $15,000 each), NTUC FairPrice will offer three more prizes of winning 300 times the amount spent on the winning receipts. The three bonus prizes are capped at a maximum of $15,000 each.
Each of the 70 NTUC FairPrice outlets will collect its daily lucky draw coupons and seal them separately. In case of need, customers could then be traced and contacted. NTUC FairPrice views the Singapore Contact Bowl as another precautionary measure it can take to safeguard against the spread of SARS. Its proactive effort will also give its shoppers greater assurance and continued confidence in shopping at all NTUC FairPrice outlets.
