NTUC Club sponsors $1.5 million worth of programmes in the Family Recreation & Fun Carnival 2011 for lower-income union members and their families
1 NTUC Club, as a strong supporter of the NTUC U Care Fund, has been organising the Family Recreation & Fun (FRF) Carnivals annually for low-income union members and their families to enjoy a day of fun and entertainment for free at the Downtown East. This year, five runs of the FRF Carnivals will be held, and this amounts to a total of $1.5 million in kind sponsorship value from NTUC Club. With NTUC Club's contribution, NTUC U Care Fund has garnered over $8.3 million in donations and sponsorship, and is on track to achieve its $10 million fund-raising target for 2011.
2 The first FRF Carnival for 2011 was launched this morning at Downtown East, by Mr Zainal Sapari, Director, Casual, Contract & Low Wage Workers, NTUC. In celebration of NTUC's 50th anniversary, he took part in a mass jigsaw puzzle game together with Mr Zainudin Nordin, Director, Care and Share, NTUC; Care and Share Committee members; and 250 union members and their families to promote quality bonding and better work-life harmony in the Labour Movement.
3 "We understand that with concerns over rising living costs in Singapore, leisure and recreation are usually the first to go in a family budget, to cut expenses. But a family still needs to spend quality time together to bond. This is why NTUC Club has been supporting our low-income union members in this area since 2005, allowing them to have a day of fun at our facilities through the FRF programme. Union members and their families have benefited from our contributions of $7 million over the years and we will continue to keep to our commitment to provide affordable recreational options that strengthen the family unit," said Mr Yeo Khee Leng, Chief Executive Officer, NTUC Club.
4 In agreement, Mr Zainudin Nordin, Director, Care and Share, NTUC, added, "It is with the strong support of our social enterprises, affiliated unions and associations that we can continue to provide much needed assistance to our low-income members. Thus, we are really thankful for NTUC Club's unwavering support towards the Labour Movement's U Care Fund over the past years. As part of our continuing efforts to help our lower-income members and their families, we will be rolling out more assistance programmes under the U Care Fund later in the year."
5 Four more runs of the FRF Carnival will be held in June, July, November and December 2011, which would likely benefit about 50,000 low-income union members and their families. They will receive free admission tickets to the Wild Wild Wet theme park, food & beverage vouchers, free playtime at eXplorerkid and unlimited free play of rides, games and activities at Downtown East. As an added convenience, two-way transportation will also be provided at designated locations free, including Bukit Panjang, Woodlands, Ang Mo Kio, Jurong and Bedok.
