~ 50,000 participants enjoyed a day of adrenaline-pumping sports activities at Downtown East this year ~

The Labour Movement rounded off a month of celebrations for May Day with the all-inclusive member-centric May Day Family Fiesta on 25 May 2013. Held at Downtown East, 50,000 union members and their families were treated to a fun-filled day of adrenaline-pumping sports activities.

Since making its debut in 2008, the May Day Family Fiesta has become an iconic event which union members and their families look forward to every year. Each year features a different theme, but one thing remains the same – in that the Labour Movement places high importance on having a healthy work-life balance and that workers must continue to work hard at strengthening family bonds.

Said Ms Mary Liew, co-Chairperson of the May Day Family Fiesta, “I am heartened that there is such a large turnout of our members and their families today. The Labour Movement values every member and celebrates with them through an exciting range of fun-filled sports activities at this year’s May Day Family Fiesta. As a Labour Movement, we will continue to strive for better jobs and better wages, but we are also mindful that our workers should practice healthy work-life balance, and continue to spend quality time with their families.”

Themed “SportsZania”, May Day Family Fiesta participants got their adrenaline pumping through a host of sporting activities like archery, rock climbing, bowling, simulated-sailing, indoor clay shooting competition, just to name a few.

At the event, NTUC Central Committee members, which included President Diana Chia and Secretary-General Lim Swee Say, together with invited guest, Madam Halimah Yacob, Speaker of Parliament and NTUC Advisor for International Affairs, joined 3,000 participants in a special mass Zumba Gangnam Workout. Following the workout, they mingled with the crowd and gave out free ice cream to members and their families as a gesture of appreciation.
